IMG_0640Well, the moment has arrived.  The annual, “weirdest festival in Colorado” is upon us once again here in Nederland.  Frozen Dead Guy Days is in full swing today, as thousands of people descend upon the tiny mountain hamlet of Nederland.  The weather is sunny and warm, which just seems to have spurred more people to check out all the weirdness.  Locals pretty much stay away, and find new strategic detours around town to avoid the madness.  We did make a brief stop at the post office, and there were cars parked every which way as far as the eye could see.

Frozen Dead Guy Days probably exemplifies the quirkiness of Nederland in the most unique way possible.  The general premise centers around a Norwegian guy, Grandpa Bredo, who is frozen in a Tuff Shed up in the hills surrounding the town.  He’s been that way for a good many years, and even has his own caretaker who periodically hauls dry ice to the shed and packs him in.  Someone in a brainstorm of marketing genius decided to create a weekend-long festival dedicated to him with all kinds of quirky events celebrating the local “dead guy.”  For more about the event, see Frozen Dead Guy Days.

More about the festival in tomorrow’s post along with commentary on a new event debuting this year, Human Foosball, as well as pictures and video.
