While others in most parts of the country are just now beginning to enjoy Indian Summer and fall foliage, thoughts in Colorado mountains turn to skiing.  Since our Aspen leaves have come and gone, and we’re now running the wood stove during these colder nights with temps in the 20s, it is time to think about skiing.  Yes, temperatures have now gotten low enough during the nights for snowmaking to begin, and the race is officially on for which ski area will open first.  The competition is usually between Loveland Ski Area and Araphaoe Basin for who will put down enough snow to get the lifts turning.  But a couple of other ski areas have joined in the fun to get people skiing by Halloween, including Copper Mountain.

Hard to believe that will all the snow we got last spring, that Arapahoe Basin only stopped ski operations in late June.  For me, my last day of downhill skiing was around May 15.  It’s great to live in  state where you can easily ski six months of the year.  It’s also great to live in a place where between our trails, mountain biking road, ski areas, that is easy to stay active outside all twelve months of the year.

Excited to get on the slopes again, so bring on the snow (and snowmaking)!!!
